Who Says Guys Don't Suffer from Headaches?

While in my 20s, I got a job at an important bank working as junior consultant. At the same time, I had to deal with school and of course, I enjoyed spending time with my friends. Between all these things I discovered that there was very little time for me to breathe and I kind of felt the tension building up. At work, the boss was constantly hassling me, promising a future promotion with better pay. Exams were coming at school and I had very little time to go out. Apart from chronic fatigue, my head ached like it was breaking in tiny pieces. The most upsetting sensation was the constant pain in my neck but I was also troubled with the dizziness.

While I was at work one day, the company's doctor came to perform the monthly regular check ups. He immediately said I had lost some weight and looked like hell. When asked, I said everything was fine for me but I did not forget to mention the headaches that kept on bothering me. I had hoped that there was nothing serious but the doctor looked worried. He recommended I would pay a visit to his practice the next morning, even if that meant I had to leave work. Talking with my boss, he agreed that I had to see the doctor. It seems they had all noticed me changing. Where was I when all these problems sneaked up behind my back?

After a careful inspection, the doctor advised me to undergo an investigation known as computer tomography. He wanted to make sure there were no cancerous tumors but he chose his words carefully so as not to scary me. The CT scan looked fine and the doctor finally said to me I was suffering from tension headaches. As he explained, this medical condition was a direct result of working too much and going through intense, stressful periods. It was also known as cephalalgia and most of the symptoms were easy to relieve with the help of Fioricet. Surprisingly, it was not the first time I had heard about this drug. I had gotten accustomed to taking it whenever the headaches were much too intense. The doctor immediately asked about how many pills I took, if any side-effects appeared and if there were any periods when I stopped taking the medication.

In answer to the doctor's questions, I said that I took a couple of pills whenever I found the headaches to be unbearable and I had too much work to do. They rarely made me feel nauseous and a little bit dizzy. Other from that, I could not think of different reactions to the drug. I did not have a constant schedule for taking Fioricet, it all depended on the pain caused by the headache. Did I feel like I needed to take Fioricet? I replied that I was not addicted on this drug. I took it when it was necessary and that was not at all times.

Having heard about my previous experience with Fioricet, the doctor recommended a more specific treatment plan. He made sure I stick with the schedule and also asked if I had taken other medicine. As the answer was negative, he proceeded towards explaining me the need to take Fioricet exactly as recommended. He said do not take more, read the prescription label and come to me if bothersome side-effects appeared. It all sounded like a TV commercial but I still decided to listen to him. After all, those many years of medical training must have counted for something.

I started to take Fioricet, two pills every 6 hours and soon went back for a consult. At the same time, I took some time off from work and discovered the pleasure of going out with my buddies again. As the headaches decreased in severity, I was able to concentrate better and pass all my exams with no problems whatsoever. Now, my final exam for this year has just passed and I am preparing to celebrate. Yes, I still take Fioricet. It makes me feel nauseous but only sometimes. I don't know for how long I will continue to take it but I am confident that it does me good.
